Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, delivered his controversial speech on Iran to the US Congress today.  For those who were concerned that the Prime Minister’s presence signaled a crisis between Israel and the United States, Netanyahu dismissed that issue early in his remarks, “The remarkable alliance between Israel and the United States has always been above politics. It must always remain above politics.”

The US and Israel have had open disagreements before and have gotten past them.   It is clear from the Heads of State of both countries that this important relationship will endure.  Most commentators agree that the disagreement in the Iranian nuclear negotiations between the US and Israel reflects a policy difference and perhaps even a difference in world view.

Let’s not forget we have common values and common goals.  We may just have different ideas on how to achieve them.  We are better served to keep our focus on Iran and concentrate on negotiating a lasting deal that truly keeps the world safe now and in the future.
