Help for our youngest survivors

UNICEF-art-therapy-after-earthquake-NepalChildren are especially vulnerable during emergencies.  How do the children who have survived the earthquake in Nepal cope with the trauma?  They may have lost their parents, their homes and/ or their schools.

Art therapy has been used in disaster relief to help children cope with loss and displacement in a natural catastrophe and in the midst of war.  The creative process provides a safe way to help children express themselves and reveal their inner most fears, grief and suffering.

Sneha Shrestha, founder of Nepal’s first Children’s Art Museum, is collecting funds to provide art therapy to children affected by the earthquake.  In addition, a group of museum volunteers are collaborating with UNICEF to set up child friendly spaces across Katmandu.  The goal is to give children a safe space to run, interact and play, providing them with a sense of normalcy in the midst of the chaos that surrounds them.
